LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The leader of the opposition, George Chaponda has accused President Lazarus Chakwera’s government of depriving Malawian youths jobs.

He made the accusations on Friday as Parliament Sines Die ahead of country’s general elections on September 16, this year.

Chaponda said it’s the first time the country has seen retired principal secretaries being recalled, denying opportunities to youth and productive citizens.

He asserted that government has appointed over three principal secretaries, some without clear roles, as a way of favoring allies over Malawians.

Chaponda added that the opposition exposed a MK500 billion over expenditure in the 2024-2025 budget, accusing the Finance Minister of hiding it and raising transparency concerns.

“With elections just five months away, the choice is clear,” Malawians want accountability and a return to the proven leadership of Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika.”said Chaponda.

His remarks, themed at “Failed Chakwera Administration: Malawians Demand a Return to Proven Leadership,” pointed to 2025 being far worse than 2020 — reinforcing the call for change.

However, Leader of the House Richard Chimwendo said there is hope for Malawi, as the current president has increased tertiary education access from 8,000 to over 30,000 students.

Chimwendo assured Malawians that the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) will continue to rule the country and asked the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) to accept the election results.

“We have been in opposition for 31 years, and we allow you to rule this country. Please be ready to accept the election results in 2016,” said Chimwendo.

He expressed his gratitude to the committee Chairperson for helping the house pass 152 bills.
