In a statement released to media by Gerald Viola Presidential Press Secretary, the State House wishes to inform Malawians and all others that Malawi Government does not plan to purchase a Presidential Jet for the President.
The State House would also like to clarify misrepresented facts which the Minister of Information said pertaining to Government response to Presidential means of transport on Official duties.
In the response, the Minister explained about the burden and flight delays whenever the President is traveling using commercial flights and suggested that if Malawi owned a Private Jet, problems faced during these travels would not have been there.
He did not indicate that Malawi Government MUST purchase a private jet for President Mutharika.
Once again, the Mutharika Administration has NO plans of buying a Presidential Jet for Malawi.
The State House urges any media house to verify any information by contacting either the Information Minister or the Press Secretary before publishing stories to do with the President of Malawi or to do with Malawi Government Policy.
Malawians are sensitive to this subject after Peter Mutharika’s brother bought himself a Controversial Jet when the country was having financial difficulties. This was also part of the reason the Donors soured on Malawi as they thought the Malawi President then lacked financial discipline and they froze all aid to Malawi among other reasons.
To make matters worse Former President Joyce Banda forced to sale the Jet played some games that allowed her to continue using the Jet without fully accounting for the money recovered from the said sale of the Jet.
