BLANTYRE-(MANA)-President Lazarus Chakwera inspected almost 21 projects in the lower shire during the week.
Minister of Information and Digitalization, Moses Kunkuyu said on Saturday in an interview at Chileka Airport where the State President departed for Lilongwe.
“The President’s visit to the southern region was to appreciate some of the development projects that the government is implementing. In total, the President visited around 21 projects that are being implemented in the southern region.
“He has mainly been in the lower shire in the districts of Chikwawa and Nsanje where he among others commissioned some sites of the Malawi Rural Electrification Programme (MAREP) project that have been electrified and also commissioned the interconnection of the railway line between Malawi and Mozambique,” Kunkuyu said.
Kunkuyu said it was unfortunate that some Malawians do not appreciate the railway project between Malawi and Mozambique.
“It takes the will of the President to approve a project like this. Mozambique could not have done this on their own; otherwise, it would just end in the bush or border. There is an agreement. The fuel transportation has been shortened, although half is by rail and the other half by road.
The minister said the project is ongoing and it will be completed as trains will be operating through Marka up to Limbe.
