LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Enlightened Christian Gathering (ECG) leader Prophet Shepherd Bushiri’s lawyer Wapona Kita on Monday, March 8, 2021 pleaded with court for Chief Resident Magistrate Patrick Chirwa recuse himself from extradition case

Kita therefore asked for an adjournment to allow his defence team to have time to file documents to justify a need for Chief Resident Magistrate Chirwa to recuse himself from the case.

The lawyer Kita argued that magistrate Chirwa is not fit to sit on the case because he is the one who issued a warrant of arrest against Shepherd Bushiri and wife Mary, for which the High Court is expected to start an inter-parte hearing.

Chirwa therefore adjourned the case to Monday, March 15 to allow the defence to file a formal recusal application for the magistrate in the case.

This comes as South Africa government applied for Prophet Bushiri and his wife Mary to be back in the rainbow nation for alleged fraud, money laundering charges.

On the other hand, the High Court in Lilongwe also adjourned to March 16, 2021 the inter-parte hearing on the warrant of arrest for Prophet Shepherd Bushiri and his wife, Mary.

The couple’s lawyer Kita told The Maravi Post outside the court that he asked for more time to study content of what he was served with hence the adjournment.

There were hundreds of people at the court chatting songs in support of Prophet Bushiri while pleading for fair trial.

Prophet Bushiri and wife Mary are in Malawi for safety and fair trial.
