“Refugees opted returning to towns, cities will be treated as criminals”-warns Homeland security Minister Ng’oma

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Homeland Security Minister Ken Zikhale Ng’oma warned that refugees and asylum seekers who have opted to return to towns and cities will no longer be considered as refugees but criminals.

Ng’oma hinted that once found they will be thrown into jail for criminal charges.

He however disclosed that the process of relocating refugees back to Dzaleka will last the whole year.

The minister was speaking on Monday, June 5, 2023 in the capital Lilongwe when updating Malawians on the progress of the exercise.

He says the Government of Rwanda has asked the Malawi Government for 55 people who are wanted in that country.

Ng’oma also disclosed that the South African government also has people it wants.

On the relocation, Ng’oma says government is winning because the refugees are hiding.
