MZUZU-(MaraviPost)-The Malawi Vice President Jane Ansah has urged people living in flood-prone areas to relocate to safer places as the rainy season sets in, saying prevention is key to reducing disaster risks.

Ansah made the remarks at Kaporo Primary School Ground in the area of Senior Chief Kilupula in Karonga District during the distribution of relief maize under the Government’s Lean Season Food Insecurity Response Programme.

She also warned against irregularities in the exercise, saying the maize must reach people who are genuinely in need.

Paramount Chief Kyungu commended government for the support but cautioned beneficiaries against selling the maize.

On his part, Member of Parliament for Karonga Songwe, Mungasulwa Mwambande, welcomed the intervention, noting that many households are facing serious food shortages.

Meanwhile, DoDMA Commissioner Wilson Moleni urged those handling the exercise to prioritize the most vulnerable households.
