BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost )-In a significant development for healthcare in Rumphi, the district council has launched a K252 million renovation project for the district hospital’s operating theater.
The project aims to enhance service delivery by increasing the operating space.
In an interview with Maravi Post, Director of Health and Social Services for Rumphi, Arnold Jumbe,explained that the current setup only allows for one patient to be operated on at a time.
He said however, with the renovation, at least three operating theaters will be created, enabling the hospital to handle multiple cases simultaneously.
On his part, Rumphi District Commissioner (DC ) Emmanuel Bulukutu urged the contractor to complete the project within the agreed 90-day period, emphasizing the need for timely delivery to benefit patients in need of surgery.
Rumphi council Chairperson Happy Chirambo also stressed the importance of quality workmanship, ensuring that the renovation is worth the investment.
The renovation of the operating theater is a crucial step in improving healthcare services at Rumphi District Hospital, which serves a population of approximately 240,000 people and has been in operation since the 1970s.
