BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost )-Seed Co Malawi Limited on Friday launched a groundbreaking USSD payment platform, *2027#, for its prepayment program, making it easier for farmers to access quality seeds.

Introduced via a webinar, this innovative platform allows farmers to dial *2027# to purchase seeds and take advantage of lay-by options at any Seed Co shop nationwide.

The prepayment program, which began two years ago, has experienced remarkable growth, demonstrating its positive impact on Malawi’s agricultural community.

In an interview with journalists, Commercial Director at Seed Co Malawi Limited, Dennis Mdzalimbo, said the new platform will further support farmers in accessing quality seeds, driving agricultural productivity and growth.

Mdzalimbo highlighted key features of the program, including price guarantees at the time of prepayment, with provisions for price adjustments due to changes in trading conditions, such as government regulations, taxes, or currency fluctuations.

He added that the customers will be notified of price adjustments via email or SMS and have 7 calendar days to accept or reject the revised price.

Seed Co Malawi Limited is a leading supplier of high quality and certified hybrid maize seed varieties, Soya beans, Groundnuts, Sugar beans and Vegetables.

Both its hybrid maize seeds and non-hybrid seed varieties are proprietary, having been developed and bred at the company’s research station through market oriented research and breeding programs.
