The Material girl is in Kenya, Africa, raising awareness for various causes, including the Beyond Zero campaign. She is expected to visit Malawi where she  is a goodwill ambassador for Children appointed by President Peter Mutharika.

Margaret Kenyatta, the First Lady of Kenya, set up the initiative to help mothers and children overcome HIV-related issues and it’s been so successful that in 2014 she was named UN Person of the Year.

Madonna met Margaret Kenyatta recently, and shared a photo of the pair on Instagram as the U.S. celebrates its national holiday, Independence Day.

“Meeting with Her Excellency Margaret Kenyatta, the first lady of Kenya!” the 57-year-old pop star captioned the shot of them both. “Learning about her Beyond Zero Campaign which targets eliminating maternal and child mortality in Kenya and hoping to join forces to promote Female Empowerment! Around the World! happy 4th!”

Over the weekend (02-03Jul16) Madonna, who adopted 10-year-old daughter Mercy from Malawi after setting up her foundation dedicated to the country, visited Africa’s largest slum Kibera and spent time with its young dwellers.

Her trip was in aid of Shining Hope for Communities, a non-profit Organisation aiming to provide girls in Kenyan slums with free education, health care, food and psychological services.

The musician posted a series of photos documenting her time there, such as one showing a child’s hand poking through a gap in a wall.

“Where there is light there is hope in Kibera! Amazing work being done by @shofco,” she captioned the poignant picture, after uploading a photo of a dirty stream full of rubbish.

“Imagine this is where your water comes from! @shofco is working to change this in Kibera, Africa’s largest slum,” she captioned the photo of the brook.

From there she heads to Malawi where after Reconciling with her son Rocco after months of separation and bitter words, Madonna returned to New York with fresh hope that her family will be once more re-united.

But as lawyers attempt to work out a mutual custody agreement, she has been sent a warning that she could face a far greater battle in the future.

A battle for the heart and mind of her adopted Malawian daughter

, whose natural family believe they were hoodwinked into agreeing the adoption and who want her back.
