This year’s Lake Malawi Swimming Marathon which launches on June 28th has received a boost from Standard Bank which has contributed K2 million towards organization of the event.

The bank’s Head of Global Markets Lesego Osman said the contribution underscores Standard Bank’s commitment to become a long-term financial services partner of the race.

“Standard Bank takes great pride in being of service to the Lake Malawi Sailing Marathon. We are particularly excited to join in efforts to promote the marathon as it provides us an excellent opportunity to connect with our local and international business associates,” he said.

Osman said as Africa’s largest bank by assets, Standard Bank’s offers a wide range of expertise and leverage as an international corporate and investment financial house of choice.

“This means we touch the lives of many people across the continent and the marathon is a convergence of these people. As a bank with an international presence, we are available to a wide spectrum of stakeholders as our network is far-reaching in Africa and beyond, including China,” he said.

The Lake Malawi Sailing Marathon has taken place since 1984 and challenges sailors to its 600 kilometre stretch between Mangochi and up North in Karonga. Lake Malawi is the third largest lake in Africa and one of the world’s most sought-after fresh water tourist destinations.
