LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The Deputy Minister of Health, Halima Daudi has commended Standard Bank for spearheading fundraising drive to raise fund to help Kamuzu Central Hospital (KCH) children’s cancer ward.
The deputy minister made the remarks Saturday at Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC) in Lilongwe during 2024 Award presentation ceremony of Be More race Marathon.
She said the health sector was faced with a number of challenges and the gesture shown by Standard Banks should be greatly appreciated adding that other Banks should emulate it.
Daudi said it was pleasing to noted that funds raised from the race would be channeled towards supporting the education needs of children battling cancer at Kamuzu Central Hospital.
“I am deeply moved by the overwhelming response to this noble cause. The funds raised will go towards the emotional and intellectual well-being of our children as they convalesce at Paediatric Cancer Ward of KCH,” the Deputy Minister added.
She recalled that shockingly every year, 500 children are admitted for Cancer treatment and this was a stark reminder of the urgent need for our collective support.
Daudi noted that Cancer was a devastating disease that affects not only the child but their families and loved ones.
“We are committed to ensuring that every child receives the best possible care and support during this difficult journey. The decision to use this race as a platform for raising funds is well supported, as it gives us a platform to reflect on our wellness and good health,” she said.
Daudi hinted that, “As we run, walk, and support each other, we are reminded of the importance of prioritizing our health and wellbeing. This event is a testament to the power of community and collective action in making a difference in the lives of others.”
She extended her gratitude to Standard Bank for their tireless efforts in organizing the event and congratulated them for clocking six years running this race.
The Deputy Minister said government notes that the Bank was very active in education philanthropy by building infrastructure and providing funding for scholarships in Secondary Schools and Universities.
She said to the runners, volunteers, and supporters, your contributions will make a tangible difference in the lives of these brave children and your kindness and generosity would help us create a healthcare system that was accessible, equitable, and compassionate.
He said history has been made as this year’s race has attracted a record-breaking 2,334 runners and this was the highest record of runners under Be More Race since 2017 when the race begun at Kumbali Lodge under the theme; “Road Meets Nature”.
Head of Corporate and Investment Banking, Frank Chantaya said this year’s race marks a significant milestone in the history of this race as it clocks the sixth since Standard Bank launched Be More Race.
He said the Bank was very proud to be associated with the Be More Race, a half-marathon that takes runners around our beautiful landscapes of Lilongwe.
“Over the recent years, this 21 km race has become synonymous with wellness, good health and camaraderie for both professional and non-professional athletes alike. We are proud to have created a platform that connects Standard Bank a diverse and rich community of customers,” Chantaya pointed out.
