SULOM lands another sponsor for Malawi top league

1 Min Read

The forthcoming Super League season is expected to be exciting and competitive following the league’s governing body, Super League of Malawi (SULOM) has landed another sponsor.

SULOM Vice-President Daud Suleman disclosed the development saying it would complement the official sponsors, TNM’s.

But Suleman was noncommittal to divulge finer details regarding the deal saying it will be done in due course.

“This season will be competitive with the increase of the TNM sponsorship from K65 million to K90 million,” Suleman said.

“We also secured another sponsorship to complement what TNM is offering. This is just one of our initiatives to ensure that players’ welfare is taken care of.”

He said the league would put in place mechanism to ensure that transparency and accountability over money collected from the gates for the benefit of players.

“If clubs are going to maximise gate collections they would be able to get enough to pay players their allowances,” he said.

SULOM is also championing the commercialization drive and the players insurance cover.

It has introduced mandatory insurance cover 30 players each for all the 15 teams in the league.

This was expedited by the death of Bullets leftback Douglas Chirambo who died on April 5 from brain tumour because the player was not on medical scheme or insurance cover to meet the K2.5 million required for the operation
