LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The New Liberation Party (NLP) President Isaiah Emmanuel Sunganimoyo, has advised UTM members to take President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera as their father following the demise of their leader Dr. Saulosi Chilima.

Chilima died in a military plane crash in the Chikangawa Forest in Mzimba district on Monday, June 10, 2024.

Sunganimoyo said the unity which was there between Dr. Chakwera and Dr. Chilima through their electoral Alliance should not be derailed but to continue growing stronger and stronger for the good not only to the two parties but Malawians at large.

He observes, “UTM members may be thinking that this is the right time to end their Alliance with the MCP because their leader is dead. This as not wishing the country well reminding all that Dr. Chilima always preaches peace when he was alive”.

Speaking through a video clip circulating in various social media platforms, Sunganimoyp has asked UTM members to wait for the Commission of Inquiry set by President Chakwera to establish the truth on what exactly happened for the plane to crash killing Dr. Chilima and eight others.

Sunganimoyo said in politics there are no permanent enemies and nobody knows what tomorrow will bring claiming that the UTM has only 4 Members of Parliament (MPs) and if unity is not there in the UTM, these four, will cross the floor to the MCP and this will be the end of the UTM in Parliament.

He adds, “I would have loved if President Chakwera decides to appoint the Vice President of the Republic to replace the departed Dr. Chilima from the UTM not one from the MCP for Malawi to continue to be in peace and in unity”.

The NLP President has civic-educated Malawians that for the fact that the MCP was a party of darkness this should not be passed to the MCP of today saying he sees no reason of finger-pointing the MCP as being behind the tragic death that has claimed the life of Dr. Chilima and eight others.

“I am encouraging the youth in all the political parties to be busy in devising ways of building their parties and not speaking bad against the MCP for the old MCP,” said Sunganimoyo.

Chilima who survived by two children and wife Mary, is expected to be buried at his home village, Nsipe in Ntcheu district on Monday, June 17, 2024.

Chakwera declare Monday public Holiday to honor Chilima burial.
