Suspected MCP’s kingpin thug Phekamisa caught in physical assault as human rights activist Mhango demands justice

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-One of the opposition Malawi Congress Party (MCP)’ suspected ringleader of the panga-wielding gang Erick Phakamisa has been caught in physical assault to Biwi resident in Lilongwe.

According to one of the victims who is in a pool blood, rushed to Area 3 Police Station in Lilongwe for support, disclosed that Phakamisa and others assaulted them for reasons yet to be established.

The victim added that Phakamisa with others “he used different cars to assault those deemed being governing Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) informants”.

This comes barely three months after Malawi Police arrested Phakamisa and two suspected ringleader of the panga-wielding gang that has been behind a series of violent attacks in Lilongwe and surrounding areas.

The trio whose particulars including Bruno Munlo Makina (37), of Mponda Vge, T/A Msamala in Balaka; Erick Phakamisa (40), of Undi Vge, T/A Kaphuka in Dedza; and Hanif Banda (23), of Wimbe Vge, T/A Wimbe in Kasungu were arrested on November 2, 2025.

The trio who are believed to be former President Lazarus Chakwera’s Malawi Congress Party (MCP) zealots are on bail.

Reacting to the development, one of human rights activist Chimwemwe Mbeya Mhango Ntchindi has called on authorities to swiftly act on suspected MCP thugs.

Mhango wondered, “Why these suspected thugs still assaulting others despite being in court on similar offences?

“Why should residents be living in fear due to these suspected thugs?”.

Mhango appeals, “Let law take its course on all those deemed to assault others during previous regime of MCP.

“The courts must fast-track on these cases that those found guilty be punished”.

The Malawi Police are yet to act on Phakamisa today’s alleged physical assault.
