CHITIPA-(MaraviPost)-Savenda Chitipa United’s participation in next seasons TNM Super League hangs in the balance after being held to a 1-1 draw at home by a stubborn Dwangwa United side who’s league status is also hanging by a thread.

The result coupled with Mzuni FC’s fine win at Civil Sporting Club has left the Lions of Chitipa with 32 points level with the Green Intellectuals and Mtopwa with Chitipa having a worse goal difference having wind-up their league campaign along with Mzuni.

The draw meanwhile left Dwangwa in 14th place on the log table with 30 points from 29 games however fate is in their own hands knowing that a win only over Karonga United on Sunday will be enough to preserve their league status.

In a dramatic Saturday afternoon at the Karonga Stadium the visitors were first to strike a blow as they took the led in the 19th minute through a composed finish from the inform Chifunilo Mpingangela to silence an expectant home crowd.

Knowing that a win would preserve their league status the away side retreated in their own territory allowing the hosts the lion share of possession.

Hardy Nadu was the closest player to restalling parity before the break, but his 20-yard thunderbolt cannoned off the post with the Dwangwa keeper left looted to his spot.

In the second half the match began in the same fashion of the first with Chitipa doing most of the running as they searched for an equalizer.

In the 53rd minute the hosts were given a lifeline into the game from the penalty spot after Christopher Mtambo was adjudged to have been brought down in the 6-yard area but Khumbo Ng’ambi saw his kick come off the crossbar and out for a goal kick.

However, with 7 minutes to go the hosts were given another penalty after another alleged infringement by the visitor’s defence in their box and this time Charles Chipala made no mistake as he coolly stroked in the penalty to send the home faithful’s wild.

In a post-match interview Chitipa United coach Alex Ngwira, bemoaned his side’s profligacy in front of goal, attributing it to the dropped 2 points.

“We have no one to blame if we get relegated apart from us because we really should of won this match confidently going by the number of clear goal-scoring chances that we had and now our wastefulness may have cost our survival in this division,” said a visibly frustrated Ngwira.

However, his counterpart Ladwell Mbetewa, blasted the officiation accusing them of being biased in favour of the hosts.

“The officiation left a lot to be desired as the officials clearly wanted Chitipa to win and they did all that they could to make sure of that even awarding them two penalties hence I congratulate my players for not giving up despite the adversity that they faced on the pitch,” he remarked.

He pointed out that MHRRC has been supporting magistrates from Chitipa Boma to be conducting mobile courts in his area since 2016.

‘‘Having situated far north, along the borderline of the two countries, Malawi and Tanzania communities in my area, especially women who are mostly victim human rights abuses had easy access to just during the project implementation period.

‘‘Now that the project has phased out, we are very worried that the mobile courts will no longer be there,” Senior Chief explained.

Executive Director for MHRRC, Emma Kaliya said that the project has since 2016 registered many successes.

The project was implemented in Chitipa and Dowa districts with financial support from the Dan Church Aid.

Among other things, the project supported the development of service charters for some government sectors such as education, agriculture, environment, and water.

The Charters were developed with the aim of ensuring that services that are offered by the departments are well known to clients for communities to ably demand the same from duty bearers.

By Rabson WOODWELL

With 5 games to rubber stamp everything in the 2017 TNM Super League, the trio Premier Bet Wizards, Chitipa United, and Masters Security FC have seen their way out; being separated from real men as they have failed to adapt the environment in the league.

Wizards Football Club who bounced back into Super League of Malawi in 2017 season through play offs have failed to fight for themselves to remain in the league this year. Their deciding match was against Mayale Barracks FC on Sunday 17 December, which they lost 3-0 in Mzuzu.

Wizards managed to collect 27 points from 30 games. Of 30 games, they won 7 matches, drew 6 and lost 17 and they will be returning to the southern region league in Blantyre. Fellow Blantyre united have also faced back to Masters Security Southern Region League after failing to survive the taste, registering 6 victories, 6 draws and 18 loses.

Completing the relegated trio is Chitipa United who gave the most Christmas to many teams this season losing 22 games, wining 4 and drew 4. Turning the interest to the CAF Confederations representative for Malawi Masters Security who have finally survived the scare at last after obtaining vital 3 points at the hand of Kamuzu Barracks fc in Dedza on the weekend.

Masters have finished on position 12 with 31 points, winning 7 games, drawing 10 and losing 12; and will be playing their last match on Sunday 24 December, 2017.

The statistics give warning to them as a team taking part in a continental show this coming year. However, their coach Abasi Makawa was quick to say they are so happy that they have finally escaped relegation.

“It’s good we have fought the battle for our own and this is what we wanted to remain in the league, our focus will be on how we will do about next season. We are also trying to put everything in place for our next assignment in CAF Confederations Cup where we will start in preliminary round and we hope for the best.

“We relied on this game to remain in the league that’s why we worked so hard to make sure we win the match and at the end of the day we beat the soldiers at our Dedza stadium.” Makawa happily said.

The last matches of this year’s season will be played on the 23, and 24 December, 2017 weekend as 2017 TNM Super League champions who have reached two cup finals this year Be forward Wanderers FC will be taking a ceremonial match against Red Lions FC at Civo stadium in Lilongwe on Sunday 24 December, 2017 while Nyasa Big Bullets will be taking on Masters Security at MDC stadium on the same day.
