U.S. Ambassador to Malawi Virginia Palmer applauds suspension of 63 Ministry of Health officials pending a National Audit

U.S. Ambassador to Malawi Virginia Palmer who was in the news of late for her rush to condemn and threaten the Peter Mutharika Government for arresting two gay men in the Capital Lilongwe is this time back praising the Government for their quick action in suspending those suspected of misusing Funds.

“Regarding the Government of Malawi’s suspension of 63 Ministry of Health officials pending a National Audit Office audit, we are hopeful that the audit will identify those responsible and that they will be held fully accountable for the misuse of funds intended to improve the health of Malawian citizens. The audit will also exonerate those Ministry of Health officials fulfilling their important, life-saving duties with the integrity and commitment which have been the hallmark of Malawi’s public service. I commend the Minister of Health, the Chief Secretary and the Principal Secretary for Health for taking this bold step to root out corruption in the civil service. It is this kind of accountability that will make Public Sector Reform real and Malawi strong and prosperous”, write Palmer on her Facebook page.

Malawians were annoyed with Palmer because they felt very strongly that she was conducting diplomacy in public. Once again her message was not welll received by the Malawians who follow her Facebook page. They see her once again as meddling in Malawi’s Internal affairs.

Wakisa Mwangonde Well this is what we want. And please share the audit findings publicly coz with the other cashgate issue we are just seeing people being dragged to court but still not sure who is who. Especially the big fish.
