UgandaDecides2026: Museveni posed to retain seat soundly

KAMPALA-(MaraviPost)-The incumbent Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni is posed to retain seat comfortably two days after citizens went to polls on January 15, 2026.

Accotding tp Uganda Electoral Commission’ sixth set of provisional results for the presidential election show that Museveni is leading with 71.88% of the total votes counted.

According to the Commission, out of 21,649,067 registered voters, a total of 10,898,099 votes were cast, with 10,634,084 deemed valid.

The results are based on returns from 47,499 polling stations, representing 93.61 percent of the total 50,739 stations nationwide.

The leading candidates have so far garnered the following votes:

Yoweri Kaguta Museveni – 7,643,778 votes (71.88%)
Bobi Wine – 2,601,150 votes (24.46%)
Nandala Mafabi – 202,802 votes (1.91%)

The Commission further reported 264,015 invalid votes and 38,223 spoilt ballots.

More updates are expected as the tallying process continues.

Museveni has been ruling Uganda since 1986.
