SALIMA-(MaraviPost)-The United Transformation Movement (UTM) party on Tuesday endorsed lawmaker Dr.Jessie Kabwila as its torchbearer for Salima North West constituency seat in the forthcoming this year’s May general elections.

This follows Kabwila going unopposed during UTM party primary elections it had in the constituency.

The former Malawi Congress Party (MCP) lawmaker went unopposed following the withdrawal of her contender, Moses Buwa.

It is reported that Buwa failed to pay the nomination fee of MK50, 000 as per the party’s requirement.

Apart from Kabwila endorsement councilor Evanso Mpayani went unopposed as well to represent the party at Chitala ward.

However, there was a battle for Lipimbi ward between Mishek Mkazingwa and Mac Kunjira that saw youthful Mkazingwa narrowly beating Kunjira with 184 votes who got 173 votes.

UTM Director of Political Affairs Anita Kalinde minced no words saying the party is honoured to have Kabwila as their candidate for the area.
