LILONGWE-(MANA)-President Lazarus Chakwera says the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) is the party to work with citing that it works with integrity by not taking money from public institutions to finance political meetings.

He was speaking Saturday at Bingu International Conference Centre (BICC) in Lilongwe during the closing ceremony of the party’s three-day elective convention that took place from August 8 to 10, 2024.

Chakwera thanked party members and supporters who showed commitment in financing the convention.

“In the past, you have faced governments that took money from public institutions to finance party meetings. Our government put your taxes to good use by building roads, buying subsidy fertiliser, buying relief maize for those in need, buying cars for government works, buying medicines and paying public servants salaries,” expressed Chakwera.

Chakwera advised the newly elected National Executive Committee (NEC) members to work with dignity and not showcase greedy tendencies.

He said: “The people who have elected you into those positions are hard workers and they serve the party with love and unity. You need to work hard and put structures in those areas where they are lacking.”

Convention Committee Chairman, Kezzie Msukwa, employed all party members to work for the party with full force.

“The good thing about our party is that we are united and to mark this you can see that even those members who have lost elections are here to render support. We have party directors from across the nation which indicates that this party is for everyone, it is not for one region,” said Msukwa.

The MCP convention saw 18 seats filled by ballot voting and positions of President and Director of Recruitment which are filled by President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera and Madalitso Kazombo respectively went unopposed.
