BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-The country’s Young Politicians Union (YPU) has asked the newly appointed Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) Chairperson Dr. Chifundo Kachale and Commissioners to ensure the forthcoming fresh presidential polls are credible and true reflection of people’s will.

In a press statement issued on Friday, 12 June, 2020 made available to The Maravi Post, the union’s National Director, Clement Makuwa urged the MEC leadership to duly protective and safe-guard the youth vote, which makes about 54% of registered voters, in the June 23 Fresh Presidential Election.

Makuwa also asked stakeholders to preach and practice peace, security and harmony during the elections and the period after the elections to facilitate quick economic recovery considering the fact that peaceful and secure environment is critical to every society in a country.

The union has appealed to presidential to prepare their party supporters to accept the results of the polls as there can only be one winner.

Youths have also been encouraged to value their vote by voting for the leader who understands their needs and is geared up to act on them through the manifestos that the parties are using to communicate to them.

Under the banner Tonse (but particularly Malawi Congress Party-MCP), Lazarus Chakwera along side Saulos Chilima will face Peter Mutharika with Atupele Muluzi of Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) in the polls.
