Nkhata Bay, June 6: A 14 year old boy in Nkhata Bay District has committed suicide by hanging himself following a quarrel with his friend on Tuesday this week.
The deceased, Kondwani Manda, was a standard six pupil at Makayipani Primary School in the district.
“Parents from both parties sat down with the two boys and it transpired that Kondwani was on the wrong side to assault his friend. The matter was then sorted out amicably,” Nkhata Bay Police Spokesperson, Sergeant Ignatius Esau explained.
He said the following day Kondwani started off to school but to the surprise of his parents, he did not return home..
“The community conducted a search only to be found hanging dead at Mutchaya Forest which is about 200 metres away from his home,” said the police officer.
The postmortem conducted at Chintheche Rural Hospital revealed that Kondwani’s death was due to strangulation, according to police.
In view of the boy’s suicide, the police publicist warned youths in the district to avoid committing suicide when they have issues.
Kondwani Manda hailed from Chimbano Village in the area of Traditional Authority Malengamzoma in the district.
