MZUZU-(MaraviPost)-Construction of a 200 bed capacity holding hospital at Mzuzu Central Hospital brings a new ray of hope among health workers at the hospital as the facility will increase efforts in the battle against the current pandemic of Covid-19.
According to Mzuzu Central Hospital director, Frank Sinyiza, the project of constructing the field hospital will be completed in two weeks time.
“This will indeed help the people in Mzuzu and north in particular because the 200 bed capacity field hospital will be able to accommodate any patient, even those of moderate symptoms which will require observation required treatment.
“So, our appeal is that once the field hospital is completed, people should come to the hospital earlier; because what we have noted is that because of space, most of the people come to the hospital when they are critically sick which is bad.
“But when they come earlier, the health workers give appropriate treatment and, thus, our mortality rate will also decrease. The aim of this field hospital is bring hope to Malawians,” explained Sinyiza.
Sinyiza further said although 12 health workers at the hospital are down with Covid-19, efforts to fight the pandemic are there as most the workers are swiftly recovering from the disease.
Last week, delegates from the Ministry of Health, Covid-19 Response Secretariat, Office of President and Cabinet and other stakeholders toured the site around the hospital where the project will be constructed.
