LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) is investigating Gertrude Lemani Trapence, the wife of Human Rights Defenders Coalition (HRDC) former chairperson and co-founder Gift Trapence over Malawi Rural Electrification Programme (MAREP) contracts.
According to the information made available, Trapence through her Gemira Trading allegedly corruptly obtained a MAREP contract and other contracts with other government agencies.
Details show that Trapence received MK3.1 billion for the contracts within 12 months from August 2022 to July 2023.
Sources within ACB have confirmed the investigation.
