GHAZNI-(MaraviPost)-At least 26 Afghan security personnel have been killed following a suicide car bomb attack on the outskirts of Ghazni city, capital of the eastern province of Ghazni.

Interior ministry spokesman Tariq Arian confirmed the news in a statement on Sunday November 29, 2020.

According to the spokesperson of Ghazni governor, Wahidullah Jumazada the bomber drove a Humvee vehicle right inside the base and detonated it killing 26 security personnels with 17 others wounded so far.

The Ghazni attack comes few days after two bombs killed 14 people in the historic city of Bamiyan, ending years of calm in the isolated town famous for its ancient Buddhist heritage.

AFP report revealed that another suicide car bomb attack on Sunday killed one civilian and 20 wounded were in the southern city of Qalat in the province of Zabul.

The Sunday bombing marked the latest gruesome attack in Afghanistan, where violence has surged since the start of peace talks on September 12 in the Qatari capital of Doha.

So far, more than 50 people were killed in Kabul in recent weeks including two assaults on educational centres and a rocket attack. The attacks were claimed by the Islamic State group although Afghan officials blamed the Taliban who denied any involvement.

The Taliban have launch daily attacks targeting Afghan forces despite engaging in the peace talks which had been bogged down by disputes on the agenda, the basic framework of discussions and religious interpretations.

So far, no group has claimed the recent Sunday attack.
