The Alliance for Democracy (Aford) is holding its major convention at the Golden Peacock Hotel in Lilongwe today. The event has drawn significant attention, with party representatives and members gathering for a key meeting that marks an important moment for the party.
In a nod to the hospitality seen at recent party conventions, Aford has provided meals and accommodations for its delegates. Notably, Mai Phiri, who traveled from Kasungu, expressed her appreciation for the quality of the event’s catering. She stated, “We are being well-fed and accommodated. We enjoyed chicken, rice, and Coca-Cola. Back home, there is hunger,” highlighting the party’s effort to ensure a comfortable and satisfactory experience for its attendees.
During the convention, Aford’s leader, Enoch Chihana, addressed the audience with a message of regret. Chihana apologized to Malawians for the party’s involvement in the Tonse Alliance, which he claimed has failed to effectively govern the country. His comments reflect a critical stance on the current political climate and the challenges faced by the alliance.
The convention is set to conclude this evening, with many looking to see how Aford will shape its future strategies and political stance following these significant discussions.
