The country’s leading telecommunication service provider, Airtel Malawi on Wednesday, January 6, 2016 endorsed the sole netball export Mwawi Kumwenda as its company’s campaign ambassador for the nation replacing Ivory Coast international soccer star Yaya Toure.

The development comes barely a month after Mwawi attained netball global recognition when she was named the player of the Tournament during the 2015 Netball World Cup in Sydney Austria.

Disclosing the news in Blantyre during the launch of the thematic campaign aims at articulating the vision to empower individuals and communities to achieve their dreams, Charles Kamoto, Airtel Malawi Acting Director expressed gratitude for the company’s endorsement towards Mwawi saying she proved the odds of conquering endless
possibilities.

“Unlike the inaugural phase of the campaign which featured Yaya Toure as its ambassador, the second phase is wearing a domestic face and this local icon is none other than the legendary Malawi’s first and only netball export Mwawi Kumwenda. Airtel believes that despite the various challenges Malawians face; we can beat the odds and unleash
our power of potential to conquer endless possibilities.

“Mwawi was chosen after a thorough consultation with Airtel’s 3.5 million-plus customers, most of which said the lofty Malawi Queens shooter inspires them through her passion and determination to overcome all odds in a bid to live her dream”, delighted Kamoto.

Mwawi therefore assured the company and general public of her total commitment towards uplifting young people’s vision to achieve their dream the same way she has attained.

“Honestly, I’m humbled by Airtel for choosing me as its ambassador for this wonderful campaign. This will go a long way inspiring and reviving young people’s vision whose dreams might be shattered”, assures Mwawi.

Mwawi was in the country for a breather and is expected to return next week to New Zealand for her professional netball career with that country’s outfit Tactix.
