LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The United Democratic Front (UDF) President Atupere Muluzi has bemoaned over lack of decisive leadership from the current administration.
Muluzi sentiments have come as the country seem to lose it’s leadership direction evidenced by the current smuggling of the loan authorisation scandal, lack of interest to audit the 17 billion Covid-19 fund among others.
Muluzi said the development has lead to the diminishing of the donor confidence.
He said there is no political will to support health sector under the Tonse administration.
“We are now living in difficult times where donor confidence is diminishing everyday. Already this year donors under health sector joint funds (HSJF) have been withdrawn support for the payment of utility bills in the health sector as well as support for the procurement of blood from Malawi Blood Transfusion Services (MBTS) for CHAM facilities.
“All this is taking place when there is a very little commitment from government to increase government to the health sector,” Muluzi explained.
The UDF leader has further observed that since the third wave of the Covid-19 started there has been nothing tangible from the head of state.
“Since the 3 wave started,no single statement has come from the head of state,” he added.
Chakwera is slowly losing public trust over unfulfilled promises a year in power.
When the usual donors are pulling out their support it is hightime Malawians begin to ask themselves where the problem lies. In hard times as we are in generally worldwide, utilisation of our meagre finances need to be checked. Surprisingly the leadership is in the forefront bringing up excuses for not doing things as Covid-19 being the major culprit. That being the case he continues to globetrot as if all is well. What is scary and unreasonable is that he is doing all that when there is no medical drugs in hospitals and people are dying like flies whilst he embarks on his site seeing errands together with his family members. This is no rocket science for a normal person to apply breaks and sit down to run a country other than what we are seeing. He is giving it a blind eye deliberately because he knows Malawians take time to notice anomalies. “Dziko ili tinabetsa.” Scandals are a norm in this administration. It is happening just like in the manner one breathes. So when we hear that donors are closing shop, the main reason is because there is nothing like checks & balances in the system; the catch words is “Free for all”, paphsya tonora!! Malawi is an unmanned cruising jumbo jet waiting to crash.
