LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-United Democratic Front (UDF) leader Atupele Muluzi has launched a fierce attack on President Lazarus Chakwera’s administration, accusing it of subjecting Malawians to five years of relentless suffering.
Speaking at a campaign rally in Ngokwe, Machinga, near the Mozambique border, Muluzi said the people of Malawi have endured untold hardships under the current government’s leadership.
He urged citizens to channel their frustration into decisive action at the ballot box during the upcoming elections on 16 September.
“Malawians are angry, and they have every right to be,” Muluzi declared to the cheering crowd.
He accused the Chakwera administration of failing to deliver on its promises and worsening the economic and social conditions in the country.
According to Muluzi, the government has presided over rising poverty levels, high unemployment, and soaring prices of basic goods, leaving families struggling to survive.
He told the rally that the coming elections present an opportunity for Malawians to choose a new direction and end what he called “a cycle of incompetence and neglect.”
“Use your vote to send a clear message,” he urged, adding that a change in leadership is necessary to restore hope and dignity to the nation.
Muluzi positioned the UDF as the party best placed to address the pressing needs of Malawians and to bring about meaningful development.
He promised that, under his leadership, the UDF would focus on creating jobs, stabilizing the economy, and improving essential services such as healthcare and education.
The rally in Ngokwe attracted supporters from surrounding areas, who braved the afternoon heat to hear the UDF leader’s message.
With just weeks to go before the polls, Muluzi’s remarks add to the growing intensity of Malawi’s political campaigns, which have been marked by sharp exchanges between rival party leaders.
