BLANTYRE (MaraviPost)–Presidential Special Adviser and Aide, Ben Phiri, who has tendered his resignation says he has done so as a statesman to give time to his accusers to provide evidence of his wealth which they claim was acquired through dubious means.
This comes a day after he tendered his resignation from his post following a barrage of attacks from some disgruntled DPP members led by Allan Ntata.
The influential and youthful aide who is also DPP’s director of operations told Maravi Post in an exclusive interview on Wednesday that he resigned to pave way for justice to take its course.
“I have done this as a statesman who strives to see justice take its course in all matters. Being a servant of the Head of State I would not want him to be associated with negative stories just because of false accusations against me,” says Phiri who has been Mutharika’s aide since 2007.
Phiri has since challenged his accusers to take his resignation as an opportunity for them to use any legal means to probe into his wealth.
“A lot has been said about me and now is their turn to produce that evidence and bring it forward to relevant authorities. Had I still been at State House they would have claimed that I am hindering their intentions for investigations.
“An investigation must be carried and all legal channels exhausted so that both parties should reach a common ground where doubts or pettiness will no longer be considered. I need that investigation more than my accusers do. I’m giving my detractors two weeks to produce evidence, two weeks,” said Phiri.
The attacks on Phiri have for the past months diverted people’s attention as the propaganda machine against him claimed he is becoming an instant billionaire while providing false figures and facts about his property and bank details.
However, in a twist of events Phiri’s chief critic Ntata has been taken unawares by the resignation that he now claims it is just a PR stunt.
His Facebook fans have since blamed him for now fearing to push for an investigation as he claimed when he threw around the accusations against Phiri.
Meanwhile, some political pundits have hailed Phiri’s move saying it is the best strategy to deal and silence his critics for good...
