LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The country’s consortium of the Catholic Commission for Justice and Peace (CCJP) and Public Affairs Committee (PAC) are unhappy with reports of political violence, threats, harassment and assaults especially at Mangochi North East constituency ahead of Tuesday’s December 15, 2020 By-Elections.

CCJP National Coordinator Boniface Chibwana however said despite numerous challenged noted ahead of the elections the consortium envisage free, fair, peaceful, credible and inclusive by-elections in three constituencies including Mangochi North East, Mangochi West and Phalombe North.

“Despite numerous challenges noted ahead of by-elections we hope for credible elections. As a consortium for complementing efforts at enhancing integrity of the electoral process, PAC and CCJP will employ the Parallel Vote Tabulation (PVT) methodology to observe the elections.

“We therefore urge electoral management body to thoroughly investigate violations of electoral laws including campaigning outside the official campaign period.

“Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) and Malawi Police Service should also closely monitor the occurrence of cases on Election Day,” urges Chibwana.

PAC, CCJP will also deploy 20 roving observers in the three constituencies on the Election Day.
