BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost )-The Centre for Democracy and Economic Development Initiatives (CDEDI) has called on the Public Affairs Committee (PAC) to establish a governing council to ensure a peaceful and stable lead-up to the September 16, 2025, general elections.
Speaking at a press briefing on Monday morning,CDEDI Executive Director Sylvester Namiwa, said President Lazarus Chakwera’s focus on his re-election bid has led to neglect of his constitutional duties.
Namiwa explained that this has created an opportunity for powerful individuals within State House and the ruling Malawi Congress Party (MCP) to exploit the country’s resources, further weakening the already fragile economy.
He pointed persistent fuel shortages, forex issues, drug stockouts, and shortages of essential medical supplies as evidence of the government’s failure to address pressing issues.
Namiwa finally called for the removal of key cabinet ministers, including those responsible for finance, health, and energy, citing their incompetence as a major contributor to the country’s woes.
