BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-The retired Malawi Defence Force (MDF) Brigadier General Charles Kalumo is now the new Director General for the Department of Immigration and Citizenship Services .
This follows his appointment for the post by President Chakwera on Friday August 5, 2022.
Government Spokesperson and Information Minister Gospel Kazako also confirmed of Kalumo’s new role in a Facebook post on Friday.
Kalumo has been serving as the National Chairperson for the War Veterans and Ex-service league of Malawi.
At Immigration, he replaces Elvis Thodi who was arrested in 2021 on suspected corruption charges.
The Department of Immigration and Citizenship Services falls under the Ministry of Home Affairs and Internal Security.
It is basically in existence to provide quality services to the general public in areas of border control and issuance of travel documents, residential and work permits, Visas as well as Citizenship to eligible persons.
