BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-President Lazarus Chakwera has approved Mayamiko Nkoloma as Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) commissioner from opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).
Nkoloma, a tech expert with a background in telecommunications and innovation replace Mackford Somanje who was rejected on academic grounds.
Nkoloma’s expertise is expected to bring a fresh perspective to the commission, leveraging technology to enhance electoral processes and improve efficiency.
With his experience in developing innovative solutions, Nkoloma could help the MEC adopt new technologies to improve the transparency and credibility of elections.
His appointment aligns with Malawi’s long-term development goals, as outlined in the Malawi 2063 vision.
Nkoloma’s academic credentials and industry experience make him well-suited for the role.
He holds advanced degrees in innovation, wireless communication, and information technology, and has received numerous awards for his work.
Nkoloma’s expertise in Internet of Things (IoT) applications and software solutions could also lead to improved efficiency in the commission’s operations.
His appointment is a positive step towards modernizing Malawi’s electoral processes.
BUT WHO IS MAYAMIKO NKOLOMA?
Mayamiko Nkoloma is the Chief Executive Officer of iMoSyS, an emerging technology company situated in Malawi. iMoSyS is championing the development of Internet of Things (IoT) applications, specializing in enabling connection for remote monitoring across a wide range of sectors, including industrial processes, infrastructure, and environmental monitoring. Furthermore, the company is at the forefront of developing software solutions suited to areas such as healthcare and water management, with the goal of improving overall quality of life.
Mayamiko Nkoloma is currently a Lecturer in Telecommunications at Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (MUBAS). He is now pursuing a PhD in innovation and development. His academic background includes an MSc in wireless communication from the University of Sheffield in the UK and a Master of Technology degree in advanced information technology with a specialization in Telecommunications and Networking from the International Institute of Information and Technology (IIT) in Pune, India. Prior to this, he obtained a BSc in Electrical Engineering from Malawi Polytechnic.
Drawing on his extensive knowledge of telecommunications and computer programming, his primary goal is to provide solutions that provide cost-effective and dependable information and communication technology (ICT) services. Furthermore, he is enthusiastic in developing technical and innovative solutions aimed at overcoming challenges and enhancing quality of life.
The innovative CEO and educator has devised solutions that have not only been implemented in Malawi, but have also been welcomed by major corporations around the world and used by people in the SADC region, Africa and Europe.
Mayamiko Nkoloma has received numerous local and international awards and he is the champion of Malawi 2063 development vision in economic infrastructure.
