Chakwera visits Nthungwa’s Chilima plane crash site

MZUZU-(MaraviPost)-President Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera on Tuesday visited Nthungwa in Chikangawa Forest, a place where lives of former Vice President late Dr. Saulos Klaus Chilima and eight others died in a tragic plane crash a year ago.

Chakwera visited the site ahead of a National Memorial Service later in the day at Lunjika.

The Malawi leader was joined by members of the bereaved families that included Vice President Dr. Micheal Bizwick Usi, Secretary to the President and Cabinet (SPC) Colleen Zamba, Minister of Information and Digitalization Moses Kunkuyu, and His Majesty Ngwenyama Inkosi Goman V, among several others.

Thereafter, President Chakwera is expected to lead Malawians in a national memorial service in remembrance of the nine lives.

President Chakwera has been consulting bereaved families for the last 5 months to brainstorm on the viability of constructing a Memorial Tower at Chikangawa in honour of the lost souls.
