LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The Leader of the Opposition, Dr. George Chaponda has accused President Lazarus Chakwera’s Tonse Alliance cabinet ministers of prioritizing their political parties convention over public service.
Chaponda cited persistent passport crisis at department of immigration crisis and other national importance.
In an interview with The Maravi Post on Friday, July 19, 2024, Chaponda condemned the riot at the Immigration offices.
He however blamed the government for failing to address the issue despite repeated warnings.
The leader of opposition criticized Chakwera government for the lack of accountability at the immigration department.
He therefore and lambasted the government for its handling of the passport crisis, calling it a man-made disaster caused by “incompetence and negligence.
“The government’s inability to manage the affairs of the state is clear. It’s time for them to take responsibility and find solutions,” said Chaponda.
The passport crisis has left thousands of Malawians stranded, with many unable to travel for business, education and medical care.
The government is yet to respond to Chaponda’s criticisms.
