Chancellor College Students Union (SUCC) has obtained an injunction mandating the college’s administration to allow students who were refused registration to register and sit for examinations.
The students could not register during the official two weeks period due to financial problems but nonetheless attended classes and did assignments.
Following President Peter Mutharika’s directive that all unregistered needy students be registered, the students approached the administration for the same but they were sadly rebuffed hence the injunction.
This development further supports fear lingering in Malawians that Peter Mutharika’s directive to Unima Council to raise fees for mature entry students is totally absurd.
Mutharika has been heard on several occasions saying that government does not have money to raise salaries and yet one wonders where these mature entry students, most of whom are unemployed, will get a monstrous MK900,000 as fees.
Students at Chanco are happy with the injunction as many think the administration was unfair to deny them late registration in light of the president’s directive.
