LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The Young Central Bankers on Wednesday, October 11, 2023, intensified their chase for the MK16.5 million Chipiku Premier division league championship as they defeated Kamuzu Barracks Reserve FC 1-0 in a Lilongwe derby at home Bunda ground.
Lasuli Jali converted a spot kick in the 50th minute after the Young Soldiers committed a foul in the penalty box.
With the win Silver Strikers Reserve FC have clung to the summit of the table with 19 points with a 4-point gap as second-placed St.Gabriel Zitha FC have 15 points from 7 games while the bankers have played 8.
Kawinga FC who are also regarded as title contenders in the race have 15 points from 8 games on position 3, and Mbabzi United FC and Support Battalion FC have 13 and 12 points respectively occupying positions 4 and 5.
St. Gabriel Zitha FC were 2-1 victors over struggling Leyman Panthers FC from area 49.
Mathews Hamuza scored a brace for Namitete-based outfit with Philip Mzoza scoring for the visitors.
Ngolowindo suffered a 2-1 home defeat to Kawinga FC on the same Wednesday.
Kennedy Yona was on target for the Salima outfit while the visitors scored through Lazarus Chirwa and Harvey Nasiyaya.
So far Leyman Panthers FC and Kamuzu Barracks Reserve FC are yet to register a win in the round of 12 as they sit on positions 11th and 12th respectively tied on 2 points from 8 and 7 games.
Currently, 105 goals have been registered in the Chipiku Premier division league from 43 games. Of the 43 games 11 ended in a draw.
So far, two games haven’t taken place as opponents did not show up at the match venue hence the points were awarded to the home teams.
The games are Kamuzu Barracks Reserve FC against Mbabzi United FC and LUANAR FC vs Ngolowindo. Mbabzi and Ngolowindo failed to show up.
The team that finishes on top of the 12 teams will win the championship and earn promotion to the elite league.
In the case that Silver Strikers Reserve FC will be crowned champions, the runners-up will be promoted into the TNM Super League.
Week 8 continues today Thursday, October 12, 2023, as Airborne Rangers FC host LUANAR FC at Fikiza ground in Salima.
On Sunday 15th Mbabzi United FC play Villa FC from Mchinji while Support Battalion FC will be up against Mangoni Warriors FC
