LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The Young Bankers which have had a perfect performance in the 2023 Chipiku Premier league first round of preliminaries have dropped points after sharing spoils with Kamuzu Barracks RSV FC 0-0 on Friday to wrap up the round on the summit of group B.
MacDonald Yobe’s boys were looking forward to finish the campaign with a 100% performance only to be denied by young Soldiers from Kamuzu Barracks in a game played at ADL ground in Lumbadzi.
The entire 90 minutes failed to produce goals despite both teams creating numerous scoring opportunities.
After the game head coach for Silver McDonald Yobe hailed his boys for the great show in the first round while attributing to the Friday’s draw to a poor officiation.
Yobe added the team will go back to the drawing board and rectify the weaknesses being noted during the first round despite finishing it without a loss.
Dennis Kambewa, coach for Kamuzu Barracks RSV FC, acknowledged the match was tough as it was a derby.
He therefore expressed satisfactory with the results.
Silver Strikers RSV FC leads group B with 19 points from 7 games.
Young Bankers have scored 25 goals and let in 1 goal with 6 wins and 1 draw.
Kamuzu Barracks RSV FC have finished second in the group with 12 points from 7 games,they won 3 games,drew 3 and lost 1,scored 15 goals and conceded 6.
On Thursday Kamba FC defeated Milias Pofera Jegwe’s LUANAR FC 1-0 in another group B encounter.
The first round of the preliminaries in the central region concludes this weekend Saturday and Sunday with fascinating fixtures to the people’s disposal.
CRFA public relations Officer Kondwani Kandiado described the first round so far as more competitive hence impressed with the way it has been run.
“We have seen new talent in young players playing in the league.Shocking results that showed how competitive the league has been.Challenges have been always there.
“I can happily say during this round we haven’t registered serious one hence let me hail the teams for showing discipline. We had issues of the venues and officiation but we solved all”, said Kandiado.
Leyman Panthers FC lead group A with 14 points from 6 games,they finish the first round with an away fixture against Dedza Young Soccer FC on Sunday.
Kawinga FC are on the summit of group C with 12 points from 5 games.
179 goals have been scored in 72 games so far in the league.
After the second round of the preliminaries,four top teams will qualify to the final round of 12 teams and they will play on league basis with the top team by the end of the season earning elite league promotion.
