LILONGWE (MaraviPost)–One of the renowned Lilongwe based Civil Society Organisation, Centre for Human Rights and Rehabilitation(CHRR) has asked President Peter Mutharika led Government to rescue the 28 Malawian girls who are trapped in the oil rich Kuwait country.
Malawi young women and girls of late have been trekking to Kuwait to seek both formal and informal employment in that oil economic driven State. However, the young women and girls have suffered abuse in the hands of the people from Kuwait.
In an interview this week Mtambo said Government has a duty to protect its citizens from abuse. Mtambo said the women went to Kuwait in search of Money due to poverty here at home.
“No person can just leave her country for nothing.That is why we are reminding the State of its obligation to protect its citizens when they are in danger,these girls have suffered abuse in that land its time Malawi should engage Kuwait and send Air tickets for the girls ”
Currently information sourced from one of the girls trapped in Kuwait indicate that the girls are being housed in one small room with poor ventilation.
The girls are also reported to be receiving inadequate food supplies as well as poor sanitation.
