LILONGWE (MaraviPost)—It is a familiar story. The flames did their best but perhaps luck was not on their side. They have been booted out of COSAFA cup currently underway in Namibia after losing 1-0 to Lesotho on Thursday.To the team’s supporters back home, it is a familiar story as they are used to the boy’s dismal performance.
“We don’t invest our emotions in this team else you can die of cardiac arrest. The boys gave some supporters some false hopes due to their victory against the youthful Angolan side and that other disorganized team but some of us who have supported this team knew that the end result will be disastrous,” said a visibly frustrated supporter who was watching the game on television at Matawale Township in Malawi’s eastern city of Zomba.
And commenting on Football Association of Malawi facebook page; one fan, Asher Cassius N , had this to say:
“We lose out on experience. We were playing school football. We can say we created a lot of chances and blame it on finishing but the challenge we have is mature players who understand what it means to put on a national team shirt and a coach not a scout.”
It is not clear if Ernest Mtawali will be given more lifetime as head coach of the national soccer team.
