BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-Blue Eagles FC defeated Sable Farming 2-1 at Mpira Stadium on Saturday, April 30, 2022 in Blantyre to extend their lead and cling on the summit with 22 points from 8 games.
Defender Osward Maonga opened the score sheet at 35th minute in the first half after receiving a beautiful ball from a well taken free kick which he connected to Christopher Mikuwa’s goal and to put the Eagles in front.
Just after 2 minutes the host Sable Farming leveled the scores through Emanuel Lino after visitors defense failed to clear the ball in their own box.
As the first half was fast approaching to the end Captain Schumacher Kuwali scored with a powerful shot from Ian Chinyama’s well taken set-piece from the left wing.
Seconds from the goal referee Happy Ng’ambi blew the whistle signalling for recess at Chiwembe Stadium, Blantyre.
Second half the host Sable Farming started by launching dangerous attacks to the visitors but the Area 30 boy’s defence was film closing all rooms making it tough for the hosts to go through.
In the 60th minute Sable Farming had chance to pull parity through spot kick after Chifuniro Ngapemba was fouled by Eagles defender but George Nyirenda right footed-shot was brilliantly saved away for a corner kick by Eagles number one goalkeeper John Soko.
The home team started very well in the first 20 minutes attacking the visitors so dangerously but John Soko early cooled the tempo at the goal.
They created several chances but failed to convert them. Blue Eagles reorganized themselves and settled well around 39th minute, to put the game on balance.
The Cops used the vast experience in the team to punish the rookies Sable Farming and extend their lead to 5 points against the defending champions Nyasa Big Bullets who plays on Sunday against the Leopards of Chikulamayembe who were also defeated 1-0 against Red lions in Balaka. Royal Bokosi scored the lone goal to give the soldiers the victory.
Assistant Coach for the area 30 outfit Christopher Sibale hailed his boys for the sweet victory as it was a difficult game playing away against a newly promoted team in the league.
His counterpart Joseph Malizani Sable Farming Coach acknowledged the failure of his players to utilise chances they created in both halfs.
In the Capital Lilongwe Central Bankers recovered from that Blue Eagles FC defeat at Nankhaka by defeating Blantyre giants Mighty Wanderers 2-1 to move on 5th position with 11 points from 7 games. Stain Davie and Dancun Nyoni scored for Daniel Kabwe side while Muhammad Sulumba scored for the Nomads.
Following the defeat, Wanderers are now on position 6 with 10 points from 7 games.
