BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-In a recent political spectacle, Esther Mcheka Chilenje, a Member of Parliament (MP) aspirant for the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) in Nsanje North, was met with strong disapproval by party members during a gathering.
Despite her attempts to convince the crowd that she had received support from various levels within the party, including regional and district levels, people jeered and rejected her bid to become their shadow MP.
According to eyewitnesses, the prevailing sentiment among the attendees was that Chilenje had shown little concern for the welfare of the people once she secured her parliamentary seat.
The Maravi Post reported that this lack of empathy had fostered discontentment among the constituents, resulting in their reluctance to embrace her candidacy.
Chilenje’s political journey has been marred by a series of setbacks. Having defected to the MCP only in January of this year, she harbored aspirations of clinching a parliamentary seat.
However, it appears that her dreams are on the brink of being shattered, as resistance from party members threatens to bring an end to her political career on a sour note.
A circulating video captured the moment when Chilenje took the floor to address the crowd, only to be greeted with boos and jeers.
This public display of disapproval underscores the challenges she now faces in winning over the hearts and minds of those she seeks to represent.
As the political landscape continues to evolve, it remains to be seen how Chilenje will navigate this obstacle and whether she can salvage her ambitions for a parliamentary position.
Only time will tell if she can regain the trust and support of the people she hopes to represent in Nsanje North.
