BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-Scorchers Head Coach Lovemore Fazili has released a 27-member squad to go into camp ahead of two international friendly matches against Lesotho, scheduled for 29th and 31st August 2025 at Mpira Stadium in Blantyre.
The squad is predominantly composed of local players since the matches fall outside the FIFA international window.
Players from Kukoma Ntopwa Women have not been included because the club will be representing Malawi at the CAF Women’s Champions League | COSAFA Qualifiers in Johannesburg, South Africa, from 22 to 31 August.
Speaking after announcing the squad, Fazili admitted that the team has been struggling defensively in the past six matches, noting that the backline has been shaky.
However, he expressed confidence that the Scorchers will improve and pointed out that the friendlies will be important in helping the team strengthen its weak areas.
The squad features players from various top local teams, including goalkeepers Yamikani Kaonga of MDF Lioness, Thoko Mwase of FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Women, and Ireen Sibande of Silver Strikers Ladies.
Defenders named in the squad are Shilla Mangani of Mighty Wanderers Queens, Maureen Kenneth and Maggie Chavula of Ascent Soccer, Doreen Dickson of MDF Lioness, Benadetta Mkandawire and Trizza Chiwere of FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Women, Justina Jumbo and Ireen Khumalo of SSFC Ladies, and Emily Gama of Civil Service United Women.
The midfield department includes Letticia Chinyamula of Ascent Soccer, Funny Moyo of Mighty Wanderers Queens, Zainab Kapanda and Sharon Dzimau of FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Women, Asimenye Simwaka of MDF Lioness, Jessie Yosefe of Civil Service United Women, Hope Chikunga of Ekhaya, Enelles Fabiano of Mzuzu City Hammers, and the young prospect Faluna Umali of Mighty Wanderers Queens.
Leading the attacking line are Catherine Kachala of MDF Lioness, Fatima Lali and Yamikani Mkandawire of Ascent Soccer, Shamila Mponda of SSFC Ladies, Sabina Thom who is currently unattached, and Mary Chavinda of FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Women.
These selections, according to Fazili, mark an important step in building a stronger and more competitive side as the Scorchers prepare for crucial international engagements later this year.
