MEC Chairperson, Justice Jane Ansah, SC, announced Friday that MEC had finished receiving nominations from candidates and that by the end of the day, the following candidates’ forms had been received for further scrutiny.
- Dr Lazarus Chakwera – Malawi Congress Party
- Peter DSD Kuwani- Mbakuwaku Movement for Development
- Professor John Chisi – Umodzi Party
- Dr Joyce Banda – People’s Party
- Dr Saulos Klaus Chilima – UTM
- Atupele Muluzi – United Democratic Front
- Cassim Chilumpha – Tikonze People’s Movement
- Reverend Kaliya – Independent
- Loudon Malingamoyo Phiri – National Salvation Front
- Prof. Arthur Peter Mutharika – Current President DPP
Justice Jane Ansah said in summary 25 nomination forms were collected. Ten nomination forms have been submitted to the commission; three were differed and candidates were asked to correct them before 4pm Friday.
MEC will announce within seven days the final list after scrutinizing the submissions.
