BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-The Malawi Police Service’s Fiscal Department has launched an investigation into how Football Association of Malawi (FAM) and its affiliates used COVID-19 funds.

National Police spokesperson Peter Kalaya said that the investigations are related to the funds which the local governing body received from FIFA and CAF to counter economic challenges when the game was suspended at the peak of the pandemic.

According to Kalaya, the investigators have made headway in investigating the Central Region Football Association and by next week, they will invite FAM officials for questioning on the same.

During the said period, Super League players, from all the 16 teams, received MK40,000 monthly stipends from FAM.

The Super League of Malawi-SULOM, National Women Football Association, National Referees Association, Southern Region Football Association, Northern Region Football Association and National Youth Football Association are some of the FAM affiliates that benefited from the COVID-19 funds.
