In a devastating turn of events, Eli Sharabi, an Israeli hostage recently freed from Hamas captivity, has discovered that his wife, daughters, and brother were brutally murdered by Hamas during his 491-day ordeal.

Sharabi’s release was met with a mix of emotions as he reunited with his remaining family members. However, the joy of his freedom was short-lived, as he soon learned about the tragic fate of his loved ones. His wife, Leanne, and their two daughters, Noya (16) and Yahel (13), were killed in their home in Kibbutz Be’eri during the Hamas-led attack on October 7, 2023.

The cruelty of Hamas was further evident when Sharabi was informed of his brother Yossi’s death just as he was being paraded on stage during his release. The terrorists even recorded his response when asked how he was feeling, fully aware that his family had been killed.

Sharabi’s brother, Sharon “Ron,” who campaigned tirelessly for his release, described the family’s pain and loss. “Eli is the last remnant of the Sharabi family still living in Gaza captivity… We have lost four members of the family. Around the Shabbat table, five chairs are missing. Four of them will never be sat in again”.

The kibbutz where Sharabi lived and was taken captive released a statement expressing their support for him. “Eli is returning from an impossible reality in captivity to a very difficult reality in Israel… We will embrace him and give him the best possible support”.

As Sharabi begins to come to terms with his loss, the country is left to grapple with the aftermath of the conflict. The wounds and scars of the war will take a long time to heal, and Sharabi’s story serves as a poignant reminder of the human cost of conflict.

In related news, Israel has begun releasing Palestinian prisoners in exchange for the freed hostages. The ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas has largely held since its implementation on January 19.

As the world watches the developments in the region, our thoughts are with Eli Sharabi and his family as they navigate this unimaginable tragedy.
