In Defence of Mutharika: Judge him after his full term

3 Min Read

The first five years term of APM’ Presidency can never and will never be judged ,evaluated and concluded that he is a failing President by the few 6 months he has served Malawians which are hardly equaling even to a a quarter of his full term.

It is a fact, believe it or not, there are a lot of things which came along with the change of leadership and in fact, failure to accept defeat, job insecurity, political instability, reliance on donor aid and residue of problems which are accumulated automatically from one administration to the other are some of the actors that contribute to the slowness in how the new government catches up to meet the demands of its people.

In 1964 when Malawi gained her independence,it took the Malawi Congress Party 30 years to do what the founding father Kamuzu Banda did on his part but still some of the problems that we face today were not sorted out and it will be a great joke to compare Ngwazi’ 30 years and the impact the APM government can have in the past 6 months of his office.Yes!Even the 30 years rule of MCP did not solve some of the major problems Malawians face day in and day out.

In addition, when Bakili Muluzi took over from Kamuzu in 1994,the political engineer took almost 10 years and he still wanted some more time to accomplish is dreams as he pushed for third term but still, some problems that we are facing today were not solved then. Here they are today hunting Malawians like a roaring lion.Does it make sense to you then to compare “Atcheya” two consecutive terms and the 6 months of APM’ leadership?Hell no.

After 40 years of self governance came Chitsulo Cha Njanji,The late Bingu Wa Mutharika, this was another visionary leader Malawi as ever had,Bingu did his part in the 8 years of his term but still, some of the mess that our fore fathers caused were not sorted out, those problems are still there today.Baring in mind hose 8 years Bingu had and the impact on Malawians ,it will be very unfair to compare his Presidency and the 6 months that APM has ruled the country.

Do you need to be reminded that after Bingu came Joyce Banda, the woman tried all she could to solve some of the challenges but in the process, she created more problems than she she thought, the public resources were swindles, the donors were gone, the angel she preached that she was no where to be seen when she left government.

Her short term came with demerits that still hit hard on the poor Malawian and have a direct impact on the leadership of today.Past her two years, will it make since to compare the two years that were blessed by donors before they left and the six months of APM without the donors and judge APM that is the failure based on that?

Let APM rule and give him the support he needs, after five years of his term, account him for what he promised during his campaign bid and crush it out with what he will achieve by the end f his term. Some of the problems that the country is experiencing are in arrears and an accumulation from the previous regimes.

APM is the President who we voted for the next five years and may be guess beyond that, let him be judged accordingly after his term but where things are not adding up before the end of his term, counsel him and where it is due, criticize him honesty and not out of political frustrations, malice and hunger for power.
