INNOBUILD to improve standardization & quality assurance in Malawi construction sectorInnobuild Private Limited has said is enhancing its capacity in standardization, quality assurance and professionalism services to deal with challenges constructors face in Malawi and globally due to lack of professionalism standards.Speaking in an interview with Maravi Post on Tuesday, Chief Executive Officer for Innobuild, Billy Chiotcha said in bid to ensure quality infrastructures, the company provides cheap and high quality services mostly to individuals after noticing gap between the two (stereotype that construction services are expensive).

He said: “As a construction company, we have managed to provide supervisory services, foremanship and also link the customers to finances through bank loans which most cases are difficult to obtain as an individual.”

“Implementation of these programs would also ensure that conformity assessment is done locally and cheaply thereby, improving competiveness in construction industry.”

However, Chiotcha said its high time authorities in construction sector speak against rising cases of corruption and fraud which hamper the infrastructure development in Malawi.

“Now is time for Government to start biting on malpractice (delays in payments, abandonment of projects e.t.c) in construction industry, in order to actively promote creative and innovative construction for continuous professionalism at all level” he suggested.

He therefore urged contractors and business community and consumers to seriously embrace standardization in recognition of its contribution to health livelihood, communication and technology enhancement to meet demands of client in construction sector.

Malawi under National Construction Industry Council has made positive strides in addressing the gaps in construction sector. However, he said a lot more needs to done to equip the participants with skills and knowledge of different construction techniques locally and internationally.
