KARONGA-(MaraviPost)-The Northern based Karonga Football Club which is playing in the current TNM Super League season has embarked on a fundraising campaign as a way of sourcing funds which will be used to pay arrears of players, technical panelists and settle other outstanding debts.
According to the team’s Chairperson, Alufeyo Chipanga Banda, the Club has conducted raffle draws and big walks by which they expect to raise about K5 million.
Banda said they started the fundraising drive with a big walk on Wednesday as they are preparing to play Mulatho Mponera this weekend at their home pitch, Karonga Stadium.
“We have been in a financial situation that has made us fail to pay our players for two months. That’s why our performance is a bit lower. But this week, we are hopeful that we will pay them their two month arrears. If not for that reason, we would have better results. We are a better side here in the North,” said Chipanga Banda.
The Club has also started to sell replica jerseys, hampers and stickers to its fans, so as to realise more funds.
Meanwhile, coach for the Club, Dan Zimkambani, says currently players are in a bad frame of mind because of the financial woes.
However, the players, through their captain, Peter Nserema, thanked their management for the efforts they are making to address the situation.
In the Super League, Karonga FC is on position 10 with 33 point. So far, it has played 25 games.
