BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-On Sunday, November 17, women and young ladies that are pushing for equal rights as well as fighting women abuse through religion and faith gathered in Lunzu- Blantyre under the new charity project called Love and Faith whose idea is to ensure that women in faith are not abused.
Speaking at the event, Former minister of Gender and renowned politician Patricia Kaliati who was also the guest of honor expressed discontent with how women are treated in churches and marriages.
Kaliati observed that women are regarded as tools instead of being seen as partakers of development at church, family, community and national levels.
She further said that it is time for women to stand up and get various skills to do a lot in the society than just being housewives whose fate mostly rest at the will of abusive husbands.
“We thank Love and Faith Project for the kindness especially for helping church and religious leaders in sensitizing our fellow women about their rights and the need to be independent.
“Women are the umbrella of a family as well as the whole country and as the human shelter they should not be leaking umbrellas when rains fall. This would mean they are weak and to prove that they are the roots of every household despite having men as heads of their families, women should use every opportunity to rise in the society and be able to support themselves”,
The Country Director of Faith and Love Project Sarah Muluzi in her remarks thanked all the invited women for showing up at the event saying that it is a sign of unity and love that should exist among women.
“This is how things should be. There has been a gap between ourselves as women as we are referred to as jealousy beings , however we need to hold hands and come together and fight for the common goal in our societies’’, she said
